Canadian Politicians Grow Balls.
That's right! After ages of bending over and grabbing their heels
in the face of illegal trade actions by the USA, Canadian politicians
actually found the courage to seek tariffs against the US. These tariffs
are of course in retaliation for the multi-billion dollar anal rape of
Canadian lumber producers. True to form, our friendly neighbors to the
south, after being found guilty of illegal acts by the WTO, stuck to their
standard "we don't care, we've got bombs" attitude. The continuation of
illegal activities, combined with the flat-out refusal to reimburse Canada
for the stolen funds really left no choice for Canada other than to instate
their own counter-tariff. It still surprises me however that our typically
spineless leadership found the gumption to take such an act. I mean, what
if we offended someone?
I think the outcome will be truly interesting if not necessarily nice. In the
most mundane case, the United States simply pays back the money they stole and
promises not to do it again. The more interesting possibility is that of even
further illegal market activity by the Americans. This would then bring up
the issue of the actual usefulness of even having a world court system. What's
the point of having such a body if there are no repercussions for ignoring their
rulings? Or is that simply the right of a superpower... to actively participate
in a body on one hand and strip it of any and all legitimacy on the other.
Gotta love the hypocrisy of power.
